"i love 2 create"
-JAB

I am a 21-year-old artist living and creating in Laramie, Wyoming. I have practiced art for over a decade, but in recent years I have begun to refine my skills and find my artistic voice. In 2024, I discovered magazine collage, a medium that fundamentally reshaped my practice and allowed me to explore themes of human overconsumption, waste, and their effects on animals within a shared ecosystem.

My work examines the interconnectedness of humans, wildlife, and the environment—how individual consumer choices contribute to pollution and disruption across a larger ecological chain. I source discarded magazines from the Laramie public library and civic center, where they are often free or purchased for no more than a dollar. Many of these magazines were destined for the landfill, yet they contain vibrant colors, rich textures, and articles addressing consumerism, geopolitics, ecosystems, endangered species, and contemporary culture. Within these discarded pages, I find both visual and conceptual inspiration. Repurposing magazines allows me to transform something unwanted into an art piece with renewed meaning, beauty, and purpose.

I create because it is where I find flow and peace. Making art is essential to my well-being and allows me to transform internal ideas into tangible, visual forms.
